Playoffs

Every Fantasy Football Player's Worst Nightmare!

Wade Kizewski and Mike Nolan played Week 12. It turns out, they were playing for a playoff spot!

Wade won and went to 8-4, the best record among Wild Card contenders. That put Mike and Jeff VanSchepen at 7-5. Mike and Jeff never played during the regular season. Jeff scored 9 more points than Mike overall, so Jeff's in and Mike's out.

If Mike had beaten Wade, Mike would have gone to 8-4, the best record among Wild Card contenders. Wade would have been 7-5 along with Jeff. Jeff beat Wade twice during the regular season so Jeff would have been in and Wade would have been out.

Here's the kicker. Mike agonized over who to play: Rod Smith (24 points) or Jimmy Smith (8 points). He played Jimmy Smith. Had he played Rod Smith, he would have won, gone to 8-4, and tied me for the division lead. Mike and I split the regular season series so the tie-breaker would have gone to overall points. Mike would have scored 7 more points than me and would have been the division champion. Mike went from winning the division to being out of the playoffs based on that one decision!

Too Close To Call

Wade went from having to win week 12 to get into the playoffs (see story below) to being 2 points up in the championship round. Brad and Wade will be second-guessing every decision and yelling at the TV all weekend. It all comes down to this.

The overall points race is close as of week 15. The winner gets $25:

Matt Augustine --
Mike Nolan 15

Wade Kizewski Wins Two Championships In A Row

AFSN sophomore Wade Kizewski (Appleton Animosities) won his second straight championship. He won the CNN/SI Sucks championship last year.

Ugh! First Stephen Davis and now Isaac Bruce!

In round 1 week 14 I played Stephen Davis instead of Mike Anderson. What difference could it make anyway? I was down 35 points to a good team. Stephen Davis scored 4 and Mike Anderson scored 49! Bottom line: Had I played Mike Anderson in week 14, I would have won that round -- and it turns out I would have won the championship!

Going into week 16, I was leading the overall points race and looking forward to the $25 prize. I was up by 15 -- a somewhat comfortable lead. Bottom line: I lost the race by 2 points, but would have won if Issac Bruce would have caught Kurt Warner's second-to-last pass last night. He dropped it and Mike Nolan won the $25.

I won this league last year. I guess it's time to pay the piper for my past success. Ugh!
