Final statistics are done... finally! Everything you need to know and see is on the
AFSN GOBN Home Page. The links that have been updated based on final stats are marked
I could not determine who won WHIP in two of the Consolation bracket games, but it didn't effect either of their outcomes. Be sure to look at the Traditional Scoring statistics. Things would have been very different had we been using the traditional rotisserie scoring system and not head-to-head.
It think it was a fantastic season for the GOBN. The Augie Fade, the Tepper Tumble, and Cychosz's improbably rise to the championship all proved very entertaining. Wayne's hold on "most dominant season" status remains secure however. Checks and PayPal payments are on their way. See ya next year! Augie 10/18/01 8:40 AM I told a couple of you that I would have the final stats done for you this morning. I don't. I will DEFINITELY be doing them tonight. Commissioner.COM isn't going to fix our problem. I have already set up something for next year so this will never happen again. Basically, I'm going to keep track of all the necessary raw stats so, if need be, I can calculate our final stats using the Weekly Winner spreadsheet I maintain. 10/10/01 2:20 PM Commissioner.COM is still working on the problem. Sorry for the delay. 10/08/01 7:00 PM Cychosz is the true "King"! There is no taking that away from him. But I can't do the final calculations just yet. Commissioner.COM is having a problem. From the "Contact Us" link: "... currently the year-to-date reports on our Statistics pages include games up to October 3, which is incorrect. We apologize for that inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we update those pages over the next few days." 10/08/01 1:25 PM Quiet Guy won week 26. Check back later for all of the final statistics and standings. 10/04/01 10:55 PM Go to the Playoffs page for Round 2 standings as of 10/03/01.
Well, it's over in the American League and has been for awhile. But the National... whoa! Bud Selig is a goober, but he's done one thing right. He brought back the unbalanced schedule. Exhibit A: Cards v. Astros this weekend. 09/28/01 07:10 PM Tepper's third transaction of the round has been undone. My guys can't hit for shit. David "haven't even looked at my team since May 1st" is going to kick my ass.
And let's not forget what you're fighting for! To hell with the $320. You're playing for a Commissioner.COM fantasy baseball t-shirt! 09/24/01 01:35 PM Go to the Playoffs page for Round 1 final statistics. Cychosz moves on to face Team 51146 in the championship game! Cychosz kicked Tepper's ass 7-3 and put to rest the debate regarding who was responsible for the Eight Ball's late season charge last year. Hear ye, hear ye. I declare that Tepper may no longer refer to himself as "King" and must refer to Cychosz as "King" in all Message Board posts. Your Commissioner has spoken. I exacted some revenge by beating Team 51147 and moved into a fight for 5th with Team DT. $30 is on the line. DT still hasn't made a transaction since May 1, which makes his victory over Seeger even more demoralizing. And Quiet Guy kicked Colin's ass 8-2. Both Cakers lost and will battle for 9th. (I'm laughing hysterically.) 09/18/01 09:50 PM From the Playoff Rules: "Note that if there are any one game playoffs at the end of the MLB season, statistics from that game will be included in fantasy baseball." That seems likely this season, especially in the NL. Our final final modified playoff schedule:
Round 1 of the playoffs continues. Go to the Playoffs page to see how you are doing. The "Round 1 Statistics" and "Round 2 Statistics" links have been changed to reflect the new schedule. 09/17/01 10:45 AM Our final modified playoff schedule:
09/13/01 06:41 PM According to MLB.com, "Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig announced that all games through Sunday have been postponed. Play will resume on Monday. Postponed games will be made up the week of Oct. 1-7." Our tentative modified playoff schedule:
09/11/01 08:17 PM Team 51146 won their 8th weekly prize. They have already won $80. Let the debate begin! Who is the most dominant AFSN Fantasy Baseball team ever -- 2001's Team 51146 or 2000's Wayne Semmerling? Colin set a new low with only 2 HRs this week. Round 1 of the playoffs continues. Go to the Playoffs page to see how you are doing. 09/07/01 3:40 PM My Juan Cruz transaction was required to fix a Commissioner.COM problem. They had 2 Juan Cruz's listed for awhile. 09/04/01 4:27 AM 1. Go to the Playoffs page. 2. Jack vs. Augie AFSN Money List Standings

FB 2000 4 5Thanks to Tepper having his worst week ever (10th in the weekly standings) and me not having 2 more runs scored, I have never been in the fantasy baseball playoffs and Jack is in the playoffs for the 3rd time in a row.
Jack, I'll let you know when I'm talking to you again. Tepper, I never liked you in the first place. 3. Other Stuff 51147 erased all memory of Cychosz's blunder by having 20 starts in week 22. There were too many transactions to reverse and the extra starts didn't effect the week's outcome, so I didn't subtract 5 starts from the Commissioner.COM stats. However, the GOBN spreadsheet and weekly winner stats DO reflect only 15 starts. They lost starts from Burba, Duckworth, Hernandez, Lawrence, and Rusch. 51146 won week 22. I set a new SO record (92). DT set a new SV record (11). 4. ADD Transaction Clarification Click here. 08/27/01 1:45 PM Stop The Presses! Dan Seeger won Week 21! The last time Dan won a weekly prize was Week 17 of 1998. Bill Clinton was still President, no one had heard of the Y2K Bug, and the Cakers had never finished better than 23rd. And Dan's 8-2 win over Colin puts him in the Wild Card hunt, 6 games back with 1 week to go. The Cychosz Blunder Brad lost 2 starts and it cost him 0.5 points. But he still leads the Wild Card standings with only 1 week to go. Wild Card Standings Team GB Cychosz - 51147 1.5 Augie 2.0 Jack 2.5 Colin 6.0 Dan 6.0 DT 9.0 08/27/01 12:05 PM Cychosz had 17 starts last week. His Clemens and Sparks starts on the 25th do not count. They have been removed from his roster for the 25th only. All statistics and standings DO reflect the changes. Click the Rules link at the bottom of this page to read more about the MAXIMUM WEEKLY PITCHING STARTS rule. The key to knowing how many starts you have is to run reports and/or create custom reports that include the GS (games started) statistical category. Cychosz set the previous low last week: 66.5. To put this in perspective, these are the only sub-70 point totals this year and the two lowest scores in the last two years. How close was it? 2nd Jack 61 3rd Augie 60.5 4th Tepper 60 5th Lick & Lou 59.5 6th Team DT 59Parity.
Article 1a. It is in this court's judgement that no rule shall be changed in the middle of a season that is already in progress. A move of this sort, at this juncture of a season would set a dangerous precedent for any "August Fantasy Sports Network" league, hence raising the possibility of nullifying the validity of any such win or loss in a playoff in said games. All rules shall be set prior to the start of a season and shall be adhered to during the course of said season to ensure the validity of such season. Any and all rule change possibilities shall be held and set to a pre-season vote by each team, while interest is high, hence demanding 100 percent participation. 08/10/01 8:45 PM
The Vote Email me your vote. Your options are:
08/08/01 7:50 PM In his book "Fair Ball", Bob Costas argues against the wild card in Major League Baseball. He says the wild card eliminates the heated division races down the stretch. If you are second in your division but first in the wild card, so what if you don't win the division. You'll get into the playoffs anyway. Jack has always liked the idea of giving the division winners more of an advantage in the playoffs. He says that playing well the first 22 weeks of the year and winning the division should offer more than just playing a theoretically worse team in the first round and winning the first round in the event of a 5-5 tie. He may be able to thank Bob for a change in the rules... A proposal: Require the Wild Card teams to beat the division winners 6 - 4 (not 5.5 - 4.5) to advance to the next round. What do you think? Vote in the CommPoll and let me know. Majority rules. Multi-owner teams, please vote only once for a total of nine votes. (I don't vote.) 08/06/01 1:30 PM Cychosz won his second weekly prize in a row, but by the narrowest of margins. His 66.5 point total is the lowest to win. (70 was the previous low.) Colin was only one point behind. Wild Card Standings Team GB Cychosz - 51147 2.5 Augie 3.5 Jack 3.5 Colin 4.5 DT 5.0 07/30/01 10:20 PM For 16 weeks, the league has pretty much stayed the same. Team 666 has been running away with the shitty division and Tepper has been running away with the other. At least 3 other teams in Tepper's division have been better than the 2nd place team in Team 90210's. These have been truths the Good Ol' Boy Network could hold onto and cherish as constants in our lives. NO MORE! This Week's Signs of the Apocalypse
07/23/01 04:05 PM Much to my dismay, Tepper won Week 16. (Is there an echo in here?) Jolly Roger's new logo > Team 51147's incredibly lame logo > 07/20/01 11:45 PM Much to my dismay, Tepper won Week 15. His 10-0 win was still horse shit. Because of the short All-Star Week schedule, Week 15 stats do not count toward Best/Worst Week stats. PLAYOFF ADD TRANSACTIONS
"2 per round" had the most votes. And "1 per week" works out to 2 per round which would give "2 per round" 4 votes. And the "1 per round" voter would rather have 2 per round than 3 or 4. So...1 per round - 1 2 per round - 3 3 per round - 1 4 per round - none 1 per week - 1 2 per week - 2 3 per week - none 4 per week - none During the playoffs, teams will only be allowed 2 ADD transactions per round. (Remember, each round is 2 weeks long.) 07/20/01 12:25 AM ... or I won't get Week 15 done until this weekend. I've got a life you know. 07/19/01 08:35 AM Seven votes are in. Two teams have yet to vote in the CommPoll. The deadline is end of day Friday, July 20. That's tomorrow. I will be emailing everyone Week 15 results tonight. Everyone but Cychosz. 07/12/01 07:55 PM WEEK 14 THE WILD CARD PLAYOFF ADD TRANSACTION LIMIT Vote in the CommPoll to the left regarding how we're going to limit playoff ADD transactions. Multi-owner teams, please only vote once for a total of 9 votes. (I don't vote.) Deadline for voting is end of day Friday, July 20. 07/08/01 08:20 PM 51146 had some transaction problems regarding Sean Lowe. I corrected them tonight. Check your email for some ideas regarding the wild card. 07/05/01 01:40 AM My first dominating pitching performance of the year put me on top in week 13. I took first in W, ERA, and WHIP (and R). Jack took first in HR, RBI, and SB, but couldn't catch me. As a matter of fact, he couldn't even catch Cychosz who took second. Just like the Eight Ball last year, Bradley isn't done yet. Team 51147 set a new high AVG at 0.3525. Team DT had 0 wins and only 12 strikeouts, both weekly lows. Playoff Transaction Limit Before the season started, the league voted 7-2 to limit transactions during the playoffs. (The playoffs consist of 2 rounds. Each round is 2 weeks long. For a refresher course, read the Playoff Rules.) Email me your proposals on how to limit playoff transactions. I will gather them and put it to a vote. 06/25/01 03:35 PM I set new weekly highs for R and HR (73 and 23) but it wasn't enough. Award-Winning Team 51146 won week 11 with 75.5 points. 51146 and Tepper are running away with the divisions but the Wild Card race is heating up. Everyone but Dan has 50+ wins but Dan got married so... That's right! He may not have a weekly win the last two years but Seeger got married! He and his new wife Andrea Keller went to Colorado on their way to Florida. In Colorado you can marry yourself and that's exactly what they did. Don't forget to check out the Traditional Scoring report on the AFSN Baseball Page. 06/18/01 01:30 PM The rich get richer. Team 51147, Award-Winning Team 51146, and Tepper won weeks 9, 10, and 11 respectively. They've each won three weeks, Colin and I being the only others to pocket the $5 prize. WHIP is down and SB are up. Cychosz set a new WHIP low at 0.904 and Colin, Cychosz, and Jack each had 14 SB. The Best/Worst Week report can be accessed via the AFSN Baseball Page. A Traditional Scoring report is available. It shows statistics and rankings based on traditional rotisserie scoring. It also compares traditional, head-to-head, and breakdown rankings through week 11. It's a great way to find out where you stand going into the second half of the regular season. The Traditional Scoring report can be accessed via the AFSN Baseball Page. My analysis of the report bares out this:
06/17/01 06:50 PM Problem solved. 06/17/01 01:10 PM Commissioner.COM is having a small problem today. Their system thinks it's Monday the 18th, not Sunday the 17th. I have emailed them and will keep you posted. 06/15/01 03:30 PM The lineup corrections I made for Colin had to do with Mike Darr and Greg Vaughn. That's why all of the Darr/Vaughn transactions. 06/15/01 02:30 PM I'm back. Colin had some lineup problems on the 8th and 13th. I took care of them today. I'll do weekly statistics on Monday. Everyone's hatred for Cychosz continues to grow on the Message Board. Though fun to read at first, it has become tiring. I have some Message Board conversation-starters for everyone:
06/02/01 09:00 AM Gentlemen, you are on your own for two weeks. My wife Tracie and I are going to the Big Crack (a.k.a. the Grand Canyon) and won't be within fifty miles of a computer. Two weeks of camping and quiet. I'm hoping the abandonment of my team will help. Maybe a little inattention is all it takes. Jack and his new wife are in Hawaii but will be back by next weekend. If something pressing comes up, try contacting Jack. I'll be back by Monday, June 18 and will try to have week 9, 10, and 11 stats done that day. I'll also put together a Traditional Scoring report through week 11. 06/01/01 12:05 AM This is a direct order from your supreme leader. Run, don't walk, to your radio and turn it off. Run to your computer and listen to the Tony Kornheiser Show via the Internet: http://espn.go.com/espnradio/tonyk.html Tony's show on the radio is good. But Tony's show on the Internet is AWESOME! You don't have to listen to any ads and you get to listen to everyone behind the scenes and "off the air". Apparently they're going to leave it this way because everyone loves it! And now the guys are even addressing "Internet listeners". It's like your own private show within the show. Run, don't walk. Do it now! That's an order. 05/29/01 11:00 PM Two of the biggest GOBN rivalries are going on this week:
05/29/01 8:50 AM Tepper won week 8 with 72 points. One 2001 best was set this week: Dan's anemic 0.91 WHIP. Week 8 details and the Best/Worst Week report can be found on the AFSN Baseball Page. Big happenings this weekend!
05/21/01 7:50 PM I squeaked out a week 7 victory with 71 points, only one more than Tepper. Three 2001 bests were set this week: Me 9 Wins, Team DT 10 Saves, Tepper 84 SOs. Week 7 details and the Best/Worst Week report can be found on the AFSN Baseball Page. The Triple Play (TP) division was 22-8 against the Ground Rule Double division this week. TP holds 5 of the top 6 spots in the power rankings (Standings,Power). Paper Tiger indeed. 05/14/01 4:05 PM For those of you who listen to the Tony Kornheiser show on ESPN Radio, go to Tony's web page and listen to Monday's show on the Internet. (Do it tonight because it will be gone when Tony's show starts tomorrow.) http://espn.go.com/espnradio/tonyk.html Something was wrong and the prerecorded stuff (like ads and music) didn't make it to the Internet feed. The cool thing is you get to listen to all of the chaos that goes on behind the scenes. You can hear all of the guys talking while they are supposed to be off the air. 05/14/01 2:35 PM Lick is like butter -- he's on a roll. 'Lick' got 3 votes, tying Tepp's former nickname 'Cumslut' as the GOBN's favorite. And not only does Lick have our favorite active nickname, he and Lou won week 6 with 84 points. Meanwhile, Jack and I got our asses kicked and Jack now dominates the Worst Week statistics. Jack's week 6 got him the worst week in SO, ERA, WHIP, and total points. And he's got the worst AVG (.2109) from week 1. In support of Cychosz's point, Cumslut had the maximum allowable starts this week: 15. Week 6 details and the Best/Worst Week report can be found on the AFSN Baseball Page. 05/09/01 8:48 PM (What are the odds?) The nickname news article and CommPoll have been updated. Vote today! 05/09/01 8:48 AM I love it! Quiet Guy 2 speaks out on the Message Board! Re: nicknames... The updates on the Message Board will be put in the article and we'll have a CommPoll recount. Also, I forgot about Tim "Quiet Guy" Hendrickson and DT's other nickname, "Quiet Guy 2". Now that we're armed with all of this new information, we need to make sure this important issue of best GOBN nickname is voted on with all information in hand. Also, Clem's former nickname was not Cumslut... Tepper's was. My bad. 05/07/01 (PM) Tepper won week 5 with 70 points, edging out me (69) and the Crotch (68). Tepper's 2001 bests of 8 wins and 75 strikeouts put him over the top. Week 5 details and the Best Week report can be found on the AFSN Baseball Page. Read the nickname news article "What's In A Name?" Then vote in the nickname CommPoll. 05/07/01 (AM) "My nickname = Fuck You" on the CommWire. Who's the rocket scientist that came up with that clever remark? 05/04/01 Fostering more communication... It's never a good idea to just outright drop your 26th round draft pick, especially if that draft pick was chosen for you as a joke by the rest of the league. Why? Because as soon as you drop him, he'll get called up from the minors and be inserted into the Rangers' starting lineup. And I'm sure -- no really, I'm sure -- he'll have a career year. Just doing my job. I'm going to officially change Colin's team name to the Allouez Revolving Doors. Are you guys sure you don't want a regular season maximum transaction rule? Vote in the new CommPoll! 129 Free Agents have been signed in the first month of the season. 129! How would you vote on a maximum transaction rule now? (The vote is unofficial -- for entertainment purposes only.) 05/02/01 The first annual Freeport Fire Sale took place this morning. As Commissioner, it is my job to foster good communication. So as Commissioner I'd like to communicate the following: It is generally not a good idea to give away your 7th and 11th round draft picks, especially at the end of April. This league is notorious for owners who have difficulty saying goodbye to their players. In other words, not a lot of trading goes on. For those owners who have no trouble saying goodbye, trade players that are tradeable. Trading is fun! Giving 50 stolen bases to Jack is not fun. 04/30/01 (Corrected) This has got to stop! Team 51146 won week four with 73 points. That's their second win in 4 weeks. Week 4 was veteran's week: 51146 1st, 51147 2nd, Me 3rd, Jack 4th, and Colin 5th. Don't forget to check out the new Draft Photo Gallery! 04/26/01 Check out the new Draft Photo Gallery! 04/24/01 (Late Update) Colin kicked our asses in week 3. (Well, in fantasy baseball anyway.) He scored 89 points, only 2 less than Wayne's high score last year. As always, you can view the details on the AFSN Baseball Page. 04/24/01 The world's largest trivia contest took place this past weekend in Stevens Point, WI. Many GOBN members participated:
04/16/01 (Late Update) Two weeks and two Team 5114x weekly wins. This week, it's Team 51147 (Lick & Lou) with the honors. Go to the AFSN Baseball Page for all of the details and to find out how you did. What a game Jolly Roger (Cychosz) vs. Team 51147 must have been. Cychosz beat 51147 6-4, but 51147 beat Cychosz for the weekly win by 10 points! "Best GOBN nickname" voting will begin next week. Don't let Cychosz lead the division and be the only one with a nickname story. Email me the story behind your nickname this week! 04/16/01 The following transactions have been corrected. Their effective date should have been 04/14: Date Time Player Team Trans Effect 04/14 9:46a Mesa, Jose 51147 Signed 04/13 04/14 9:46a Wells, Bob 51147 Released 04/13 04/13 4:16p Gardner, Mark 51146 Signed 04/13 04/13 4:16p Rueter, Kirk 51146 Released 04/1304/10/01 I was talking to Christensen last night and we were wondering just how long it's been since Seeger won a Weekly Winner prize. The answer is:
And the best part is, he's a Caker. 04/09/01 We're off and running! Team 51146 is the Week 1 Weekly Winner... and I use the term "Winner" losely. Go to the AFSN Baseball Page for all of the results. 04/08/01 In a "holding hands around the campfire" effort to bring the GOBN closer together, I'd like to explore the mysterious world of nicknames. Do you have one? How did you get it? Send me an email and I'll include it in the article I'm writing. Then we'll vote on who has the best nickname. Here are the nicknames I know about. What I don't know is how you got them, or if you have another nickname you'd rather submit for consideration: Matt "Augie" Augustine
03/27/01 It took five hours, but the draft went very well. Getting rid of "auto pilot" made the draft drag on a bit, but everyone got the players they wanted which is the most important thing. We'll call it a success. Have any suggestions for next year's draft? I'm all ears. Make sure your roster is legal for Opening Day, April 1. If it's not, your stats won't count. 03/19/01 Notice the change of venue to the Student Services Center. Please read your email for the details. My phone number during the draft: 715-346-3586. 03/16/01 There are two places to go for Good Ol' Boy Network information: (1) the page your are on right now and (2) the AFSN Baseball Page. The AFSN Baseball Page has:
03/16/01 The draft is Saturday, March 24 at 7 PM Central Time. It's an online draft so you can participate from anywhere. But if you'd like to trash talk in person, Jack George and I will be at the Student Services Center on the UW-Stevens Point campus at 6 PM that night. You can join us there. Otherwise, see you online! AFSN Fantasy Baseball Guide: The Live Online Draft 02/27/01 "Pitchers and catchers report." They're baseball's four sweetest words, followed very closely by "Yankees lose! Not unlike Michael Jordan, Wayne Semmerling has chosen to go out on top -- he is not returning to defend his championship. Wayne is second on the AFSN Fantasy Baseball Money List ($473) and third on the overall Money List. We all know fantasy baseball is demanding -- even for those of us who lose all the time. (Let the whining begin!) Last year's record-breaking performance must have taken a lot out of Wayne. Like Jordan, let's hope Wayne comes out of his first retirement soon. Matt & Ken McClellan are also bowing out this year. Matt is a founding member of the AFSN, playing AFSN Fantasy Baseball and Football since 1995.
