Playoff Rules 2001
Making the Playoffs The top four teams -- two division champs and two wild-card teams (best record regardless of division) -- compete for the League Championship. The 5th through 10th place teams compete in the consolation bracket.
Tie-BreakersIn the event that two or more teams have identical win-loss records at the conclusion of the season, and have played the same number of Head-to-Head games between them, the following tie-breaking system is employed:
Tie Breakers for Division Championship/Playoff Seeding1 - Overall record2 - Head-to-Head record3 - Lowest regular season Team Earned Run Average (ERA)4 - Highest regular season Team Batting Average (AVG)
In the event that three or more teams have identical win-loss records at the conclusion of the season, and have played a different number of Head-to-Head games between them, the following tie-breaking system is employed:
Tie Breakers for Division Championship/Playoff Seeding1 - Overall record2 - Lowest regular season Team Earned Run Average (ERA)3 - Highest regular season Team Batting Average (AVG)
Transactions During the Playoffs Teams are allowed only 2 ADD transactions per playoff round. (Each round is 2 weeks long.) Transactions effective the first day of Round 1 do not count against the 2 ADD transactions because the playoffs haven't started yet; the team is setting their playoff roster, not changing it. Transactions effective the first day of Round 2 do count because the playoffs are well underway.
This rule was added in 2001.
Scoring During the Playoffs At the end of the two-week playoff round, I'll combine the two weeks and calculate the winner. For example, if you had 20 HRs the first week and 15 HRs the second week, I'll combine the two weeks into 35 HRs and compare that with your opponent's HR total. Whoever has more gets the point.
In the event that two teams have the same number of points at the conclusion of their two week playoff game, the following tie-breaking system is employed:
Tie Breaker for Playoff Games1 - Overall regular season record2 - Head-to-Head regular season record3 - Lowest regular season Team Earned Run Average (ERA)4 - Highest regular season Team Batting Average (AVG)
Playoff Schedule - Who Plays WhoIn Round One of the playoffs, the conference winner with the best win/loss record plays the wild-card team with the worst win/loss record; the other conference winner plays the wild-card team with the better win/loss record. In Round Two, the winners of Game 1 and Game 2 in Round One (see table below) compete for the League Championship. Each round of the playoffs spans a two-week period.
The 5th through 10th seeded team in each league compete in the consolation bracket.
