Survey 2002

    Your Name:

    Transactions

  1. Limit regular season ADD transactions to:

    2 per week
    3 per week
    4 per week
do not limit (same as always)
    don't care

Note: There is already a "2 ADD transactions per playoff round" rule.

    Arguments owners have contributed:

    • Limit the number of add/drop transactions on a weekly basis -- 3 per week or something like that. If we are attempting to mirror MLB, major league teams do not turn over their roster every week. Also, this rule makes the playing field more level for people without internet access at work.

    • Allowing only 2 ADD transactions per week: this seems like too few to me. If you want to put in the time to make dozens of pick-ups and drops per week, fine. The only area in which this would give you an unfair advantage is with the starting pitchers and we've already got rules in place that effectively prevent that.

  2. There is currently a "15 pitching starts per week maximum" rule. If ADD transactions are limited, we should:

keep the rule, limit pitching starts to 15
get rid of the rule, the transactions limit makes it moot
    don't care

    Arguments owners have contributed:

    • If we limit ADD transactions, eliminate the maximum starts per week restriction. Since teams can't pick up 5 starting pitchers on Sunday to pad W & K, it becomes moot. Opponents who play you, and your team of all starting pitchers, will at least be aware of approximately how many starts they will be facing at the beginning of the week.

  3. Should we be able to make lineup changes only once per week?

    yes, only once per week
no, we should be able to make lineup changes whenever we want (same as always)
    don't care

    Arguments owners have contributed:

    • Lineup changes once per week. I'm strongly opposed to this. Again, if someone wants to take the time to scour the transaction lists and injury reports in preparation for making changes every day, more power to them. They might have an advantage over someone who only takes the time to check it once or twice a week, but it's only a minor one AND they probably deserve to. Half the challenge of fantasy bball is keeping up with the MLB schedule and making sure you're moving players in and out of the lineup accordingly (days off, trips to Coors, etc). If someone doesn't want to do that, that's their prerogative, but it shouldn't limit the options of the other teams.

    Minimum Starts

  4. Should a team be required to have a minimum number of pitching starts per week?

yes, add a minimum pitching starts per week requirement (number to be voted on later)
no, do not add the requirement (same as always)
    don't care

    Arguments owners have contributed:

    • Add a minimum "starts" rule (my suggestion is at least 5 starts) because if a team chooses not to have any IPs, it automatically wins WHIP and ERA. This also forces our teams to be more like actual major league teams in roster makeup.

    Position Eligibility

  5. Otherwise known as the "horseshit Chipper Jones rule," our current position eligibility rule states: "Players must have 1 game played last year or 5 games played this year at a position to qualify." Should the rule be:

1 game last year, 5 games this year (same as always)
5 games last year, 1 game this year
5 games last year, 5 games this year
    don't care

    Arguments owners have contributed:

    • The current rules state that if a player has played 1 game at a position last year, or 5 games this year, they are then eligible for the position. This is what I refer to as the "horseshit Chipper Jones" rule. Shouldn't the rule go as follows: 5 games last year or 1 game this year? Such as Shawn Green played a game at 1B on June 26th. Under the current rules I can't play Shawn Green at first base this year, but I could play him there next year even if he never thinks about first base again?

    • I'm basically indifferent. If anything it should be five games to qualify for both this season and last. If the Dodgers use Shawn Green as their emergency catcher one game, I don't think that should mean we, as fantasy flunkies, should be able to use him as catcher all the time. If they play five games at a position, that's enough PT that moving them there is fair game.

    Trade Deadline

  6. Our current trade deadline is August 24. Should we change the trade deadline to match Major League Baseball's -- July 31?

yes, change the trade deadline to July 31
no, leave the trade deadline at August 24 (same as always)
    don't care

    Arguments owners have contributed:

    • The August 24 deadline is left over from our ESPN.com Fantasy Baseball days. It's way too late in the season, only a week or two before our fantasy baseball playoffs. We should change it to match Major League Baseball's trade deadline.

    Schedule

  7. Currently, we count statistics from any one game playoffs at the end of the MLB regular season. Should those statistics continue to count:

yes, continue to count any one game playoffs (same as always)
no, do not count one game playoffs
    don't care

    Arguments owners have contributed:

    • MLB one game playoffs happen at the end of our fantasy baseball championship round. It would be a shame if the championship were determined because one team had players involved in the one game playoff, therefore getting an extra at bat or inning pitched. Wouldn't be fair.

  8. Currently, the last week of our two-week championship round is week 26, the last week of the MLB regular season. Should we eliminate the last week of our regular season, bump back all of the playoff games one week, and eliminate week 26? The championship round would be weeks 24-25.

    yes, eliminate week 26
no, keep week 26 (same as always)
    don't care

    Arguments owners have contributed:

    • Like the NFL, many MLB teams bench their best players the final week of the regular season. We should eliminate it to be fair to those teams playing for the championship. New schedule:

our regular season: MLB weeks 1-21
our playoff round 1: MLB weeks 22-23
our playoff round 2: MLB weeks 24-25.

    Playoffs

  9. In the first round of the playoffs, should the wild card teams be required to beat the division winners 6 - 4 (not 5.5 - 4.5) to advance to the next round?

yes, wild cards should have to win 6-4
no, a win is a win (same as always)
    don't care

    Arguments owners have contributed:

    • One owner has always liked the idea of giving the division winners more of an advantage in the playoffs. He says that playing well the first 22 weeks of the year and winning the division should offer more than just playing a theoretically worse team in the first round and winning the first round in the event of a 5-5 tie.
