Traditional Scoring - Week 25
Fantasy Sports Money Lists

The "Strangest Season" award goes to Dan Seeger. Looking at the Traditional Scoring - Week 25 report, Dan would have finished in the top 4 in any other format other than head-to-head: 2nd in traditional (WK 25) and 4th in breakdown (BRK).

Looking at the same report, Colin fell from 2nd in traditional scoring to 9th between weeks 12 and 25. That and his 10th place head-to-head finish caps off a late-season fade not even I could match.

My predictions made prior to the start of the playoffs with actual finish in parenthesis ( ):

1st - Team 51146 (2)
2nd - Drew Dockery (1)
3rd - Jack George (4)
4th - David Taylor (3)
5th - Jon Tepp (5)
6th - Dan Seeger (9)

Winning Percentage Chart

Jack got it done when it needed to be done. He beat me 8.5-1.5 to move ahead of DT to win the Triple Play division and $40.

On the other hand, Drew is limping into the playoffs. He hasn't been the same team the second half. Looking at the Winning Percentage Chart, Team 51146 might have won the division given a couple more weeks.

Heart-felt symphathy goes out to Dan Seeger and Jon Tepp. What a second half run! After week 12 they were in 8th and 9th place. Given a few more weeks, it looks like one of them would have replaced DT in the playoffs.

Dan's first appearance in the playoffs eludes him, but what progress this year.

Playoffs

My predictions:

1st - Team 51146
2nd - Drew Dockery
3rd - Jack George
4th - David Taylor
5th - Jon Tepp
6th - Dan Seeger
7th - Miller & Coughlin
8th - Brad Cychosz
9th - Colin Walsh
10th - Matt Augustine

Remember, everyone actually participates in the playoffs.

Next Monday, you may only pick up two guys -- your round 1 limit.

08/24/04 10:15 AM

IMPORTANT

Last week I gave an owner incorrect information about when the "2 transactions per playoff round" rule would take effect, and I failed to give the rest of the league what I consider fair warning. So I'm going to push it back one week. Here is the new schedule:

  • Mon, 8/30 Unlimited transactions

  • Mon, 9/6 Count against round 1 limit

  • Mon, 9/13 Count against round 2 limit

  • Mon, 9/20 Count against round 2 limit
Read the rest of the playoff rules.

Seeger 8.0 Dockery
Tepp 8.5 Walsh

* Division leader
Seeger plays Dockery this week, a difficult draw. So I think the big question is, will Tepp's late-season charge turn into a playoff birth?

None of the wild card contenders play each other, so they'll have to play well and rely on others this week. Unfortunately, Tepp has to rely on me. But let's not forget, Jack and I may get along great now, but when we were both contending for playoff spots (yes, there was a time) he was my arch enemy. Tepper, I'll do my best.

Seeger 9.0

* Division leader
Looking at the Win % Chart and the Wild Card table, you can pretty much declare a Dockery/DT/George/51146 playoffs right now. With a big win over George this week, Tepp could move into contention, and DT has a tough matchup against Dockery. Tepp's problem: DT finishes the regular season playing Coughlin, and George plays me.

Who will win the Triple Play Division, DT or George? Stay tuned.

Seeger is a dark horse and can stay within reach with a big win over Cychosz this week. Seeger's problem: he finishes the season against Dockery.

I messed up the difficulty of schedule table in the League Reset article somehow. (Thanks Al Franken... I mean Jack for finding the problem.) The table has been corrected.

The biggest change is this revelation: Seeger actually has a tougher schedule than Team 51146. I'm less apt to pick Seeger to get into the playoffs now, though he has got to be the popular under dog pick here.

What do you think? Who will be the #4 seed? Vote in the new poll!

08/04/04 12:35 AM

Tepper had me beaten 6-4 until the GS adjustment. Now he lost to me 4.5-5.5.

Traditional Scoring
Week 12

Drew is #1 across the board. Lick & Lou are #10.

The biggest upward movers: 51146 and Walsh. (Check out the new CHG column.)

The biggest downward mover: Who else?

Head-to-head, breakdown, and traditional rankings are tracking pretty nicely. DT's head-to-head record is better than it should be. He's got the 2nd best record but -- according to breakdown and traditional -- he really belongs in 5th or 6th.

Waivers

When filling out the Transactions Form, make sure you know who is on waivers. A player is on waivers if he was dropped last week. If a player is on waivers, you do not get to bid on him. If you get him, you get him for his current salary or $10, whichever is higher.

Random Notes

The only damage I could do against 51146 is get Erstad and Hudson hurt.

Did I say the shitstorm was going to start June 22? I meant June 29, and this time I mean it! I am not giving up. My guys (an All-Star offensive roster if I've ever seen one) are going to win or die trying! Jack, you get to be the first victim.

I haven't done Weekly Winner stats yet, but Drew says DT won, which wouldn't be surprising. He beat Dan 9-1 this week.

10-0 wins are so hard to come by. (The last time I said that, I lost 10-0. Looks like this is your week, Dan!)

Transaction Notes

Some highlights from this week's Transactions Log.

  • FA: Dockery: add Ted Lilly ($7) drop Ryan Madson ($7) - Other requests: Augustine ($5)

The Ryan Madson experiment is over after one start for the Phillies and the War Pigs.

  • FA: Coughlin: add Michael Barrett ($5) drop Charles Johnson ($7)

Barrett is a free agent? The league missed the ball on that one.

  • FA: Coughlin: add Marcus Giles ($5) drop Craig Biggio ($11)

    Jerk.

Tepper can thank Jack for saving him $3. Tepper picked up Woody Williams last week for a free agent bid of $13. Turns out, Jack had dropped him the week before at a salary of $8. That means Williams was on waivers and Tepper gets him for the waiver minimum of $10. Jack noticed the descrepancy today.

06/07/04 1:45 PM

Transaction Notes

Coughlins Team bid $1 for "Jeff's Ma." Unfortunately, $5 is the minimum bid for a free agent, so the request was thrown out.

Yet another "the whole league's been thinking about him but we're not sure if he's for real" player goes to the Allouez Crickets -- Paul Wilson.

Random Notes

I don't know what "besmirching" means, but it doesn't sound good.

Brad still won 7.5-2.5 versus DT in week 8 even after the GS reduction.

Week 8 and 9 weekly winner standings were very close. 2nd-4th place were separated by only 1 point both weeks. Jack won by only 1.5 and 2 points respectively.

Jack is on a roll. He won 2 weekly winner prizes, took over 1st place in the division, and is 2nd only to Drew in the power rankings.

05/31/04 10:05 PM

Random Notes

Every game last week was 7-3 give or take 0.5 point. Everyone but Jack in the Triple Play Division had the 3.

I forgot to exclude my A.J. Burnett pick up in my -- as Jack put it -- "cheese and wine" post over the weekend. The correction is below.

An unprecedented $82 bid from Team 51146 this week... for Lou's sister.

Jack's total salary is down to $239.

Cychosz had 13 starts. Matt Morris' Sunday start has been eliminated, but the change won't take effect until tomorrow morning. A 7.5-2.5 win over DT may be effected if Cychosz loses WHIP because of the change.

Because of Cychosz's overage, I can't do weekly winner stats until tomorrow.

Traditional Scoring Report
The first traditional scoring report of 2004 is available -- click here. My analysis:

  • Drew is king! He is 25.5 points ahead of Jack's second place team.

  • Jack, Dan, and I are the middle tier right now.

  • Colin, DT, and Tepp are the lower-middle tier, despite DT's third place head-to-head standing.

  • Cychosz and Coughlin's Team are in serious trouble.

  • Team 51146 is the wild card. Their head-to-head and week 6 traditional stats are abysmal, but they are fourth in breakdown. I don't know how that can be?!
Other Notes

Injuries are becoming a factor. Five players on the MLB DL were dropped this week, thirteen remain on GOBN benches.

05/11/04 1:35 PM

Due to Cychosz's starts adjustment, Seeger beat him 6-4 in week 4. Week 4 stats and a new Best/Worst Week report still to come.

Seeger's week 4 victory moves him atop the division, ahead of Drew by 0.5 game. (Drew, it's already working against you... Here come those War Pigs!)

05/10/04 9:07 PM

Weekly Winner
Week 5 - 51146 - 72.5 points

Week 4 stats can't be done yet. Cychosz had 15 starts in week 4. The adjustment has been made and the stats and standings should be updated Tuesday morning. His tie with Seeger will almost certainly turn into a Seeger victory.

Starts by Morris, Wakefield, and Garland -- really good starts -- were eliminated to bring Cychosz to 12 starts.

"Rule 16.3. If your 12th and 13th starts occur on the same day, the following tie-breakers will be used to determine who the pitcher of record will be: (1) the pitcher with the worst ERA for that one game, (2) the pitcher with the worst WHIP for that one game."

Colin, Eric Byrnes is back!

Matchup Of The Week: Augie vs. DT

Watch out for the War Pigs! Drew has the best breakdown record in the league.

I've been traveling for work. Or should I say I've traveling to visit my fantasy players and doing some work when I find the time. I watched Michael Young and Hank Blalock in Texas last Wednesday, and am in New York this week to watch Vlad knock some Yankee pitches into the seats.

Michael Young -- "Why did Augie keep him?" -- just like Jay Bell a few years ago... ALL-STAR!

The sky is falling! Augie and Seeger are leading their divisions. And Dan was the only one to put a hurting on anyone last week, beating Colin 7-3.

For the first time all season, Coughlins Team didn't have the lead on Saturday only to lose on Sunday... they tied.

There were a lot of pick ups this week, but no consensus on who was worth picking up except for Milton Bradley and maybe good ol' Vinny Castilla.

Auction Draft

The 2004 Auction Draft will be held at Tepp's house in Waunakee, WI, on Saturday, March 27, 2004. The draft itself will begin at 12:00 noon Central time, but please show up at 11:00 am so we can go over how the draft will work and get ourselves settled.

After the draft, it's Texas Hold 'Em and the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. So plan on sticking around and even stay over at Tepp's Saturday night if you want.

I'm email directions to Tepp's house again as the auction approaches.
