Commissioner's Message Archive 2005

10/02/05 10:48 AM

Only one new record set in 2005:

Best Week, WHIP - War Pigs - 0.785

09/26/05 12:00 PM

Jack George is your 2005 GOBN Champion! This is Jack's second championship. His first was in 1999.

Team 51146 makes a unprecedented seventh trip to the playoffs without winning a championship, joining the likes of the Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings in "almost but not quite" lore.

My team came up short in the playoffs. Seeger finished third, the Upswing fourth.

Coughlin won the Consolation bracket, taking 5th place. It's a small taste of what could have been for Matt's team.

Cychosz salvages his season with a 6th place finish.

Colin finishes dead last.

Jack won Week 25 with 86.5 points. The Weekly Reports (below) have been updated.

09/20/05 8:06 PM

Coughlin won Week 24 with 68 points, the third lowest point total of the season to win. The Weekly Reports (below) have been updated.

Team 51146 takes over first place in Traditional Scoring. Coughlin is third. (How did it not come together for Matt this season?) Jack and Dan? Sixth and seventh!

Playoff scores as of Monday:
51146 6 - George 4
Augustine 5 - Seeger 5
Tepp 5.5 - Coughlin 4.5
Cychosz 6 - DT 4
Dockery 5.5 - Walsh 4.5

09/12/05 10:45 PM

Team 51146 won Week 23 with 83.5 points. Their second best week. Their third Weekly Win in a row. Tepp placed second with only 66 points, a huge margin of victory for Team Zip Code. Stating the obvious here, they are rolling!

The Weekly Reports (below) have been updated.

The lower seed won every Round 1 matchup -- every one. Click Playoffs @ AFSN.net to see the Round 1 results and the Round 2 matchups.

09/06/05 8:35 PM

Team 51146 won Week 22 with 84 points. All three Weekly Reports (below) have been updated.

Team 51146's 84 points is their best Weekly Winner showing of the year. As a matter of fact, only three others have had a better week all season.

My 36.5 points is my worst weekly performance, as is my last place finish. Rally! Rally! Rally!

Will Cychosz salvage his season and not finish last? Will Drew go from 1st to worst? Will Team 51146 get in Augie's way yet again? Stay tuned...

08/29/05 5:40 PM

The Transactions Log has been updated. Players will appear on rosters later tonight (after the CNN/SI Sucks fantasy football draft).

08/29/05 5:25 PM

Team 51146 won Week 21 with 71.5 points. All three Weekly Reports (below) have been updated.

Let the PLAYOFFS begin!

08/22/05 11:50 PM

Seeger won Week 20 with 67 points. All three Weekly Reports (below) have been updated.

After losing 4 in a row Weeks 14-17, Dan has won 3 in a row coming into the final week.

Meanwhile, I've been mediocre or worse the last 3 weeks, going 9-15-6, including a 4-5-1 loss to Dan last week and a 6th place finish in the Weekly Winner race. The good news (for me, anyway)? I've clinched the Triple Play division title.

If you are not listed in the Wild Card Standings, you have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs -- you are more than 10 games back.

Four teams are playing for 3 playoff spots. DT's 8-1-1 victory over Tepper put him back in the race. (For angst regarding that matchup, see Clem's message board post.) Otherwise, the only race would be for the Ground Rule Double division.

Game of the Week

The schedule worked out perfectly. The current division leader, Dan Seeger, plays the only team within striking distance for the division championship this week -- Team 51146.

Team 51146 is 5.5 games back. If Dan goes 2.5-7.5 or better against 51146, he wins the division. Otherwise, 51146 steals it in the final week. Dan has led the division since Week 2! What drama! I love it!

And because DT is only 1 game behind 51146, not only could they lose the division this week, but they could be out of the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. Stay tuned...

Not as dramatic, but still worth watching -- can Brad end the regular season with a .400 record? He was at .400 in Week 13. A 4.5-5.5 loss to Jack would put him at exactly .400 again.

Transactions related... Coughlin got screwed this week while losing the Dockery-cast-off sweepstakes. He got outbid on two former War Pigs, Wood and Rolen, and to add insult to injury, Drew outbid him for Foulke.

CAGE MATCH!

08/15/05 10:05 PM

Tepper won Week 19 with 83.5 points. All three Weekly Reports (below) have been updated.

Cychosz is serious about his new role as spoiler, bidding $15 and $10 on free agents this week. Next up for the Roger: Walsh, George.

Brad made Team 51146 nervous with last week's 8-2 spanking. They made 5 moves this week.

The Triple Play Division holds the top 5 spots on the Traditional Scoring report.

Counting ties as 1/2 a win, both divisions have a total of 260 wins within their respective division. The telling statistic: the Triple Play Division has 238 out-of-division wins, the Ground Rule Double Division has only 192. Put another way, Triple Play is 238-192 (.553) against Ground Rule Double.

Jack won Week 17 with 71 points and Week 18 with 67 points. He now leads the Wild Card Standings if you exclude division leader Dan Seeger. All three Weekly Reports (below) have been updated... finally.

I'm being generous keeping Tepper and Coughlin in the Wild Card Standings. Two weeks ago, they were in the thick of things, but have now fallen back.

Seeger continues to hang on to the division lead. Walsh has lost 2 of his last 3, both to Team 51146. And 51146 has won 3 in a row, including a 9-1 drubbing of Walsh in Week 16. Seeger has lost 4 of his last 5, but by narrow margins, his hot start just enough to give him a 3.5 game lead over 51146... for now.

But look at this! As of Sunday afternoon, Cychosz is beating 51146 8-2! If that ends up as the final score and Seeger maintains his 6-3-1 lead over Dockery (or something close to that), Dan will get some much needed breathing room.

Upcoming schedule...
Seeger: Augustine, 51146
51146: Dockery, Seeger

Does Sheridan really look like that?

I'm going to be out of town next week and unable to do stats (Weekly Winner, Traditional Scoring, etc.). I will, of course, do transactions on Monday, but stats for this week will have to wait until the following Monday or Tuesday.

07/25/05 3:14 PM

I won Week 16 with 76 points. All three Weekly Reports (below) have been updated.

Coughlin now leads in Traditional Scoring.

The Transactions Log has been updated. Transactions, including trades, will be executed later tonight.

I don't have to tell you guys, but I will anyway, that things are getting interesting. Dan's hot start may not be enough to win the GRD division. Good Ol' Team 51146, always in the race come July, is only 3.5 games back.

Meanwhile, the only teams not in the Wild Card race are Cychosz and Dockery. Everyone else, including Coughlin and Tepper, can't give in. There are still 5 weeks left in the regular season and among those in the Wild Card race, Walsh is the worst off and is still only 8 games back.

And DT... Every season, baseball or football, I say the same thing. I have no idea how he does it. DT has yet to pick anyone up and has had Clint Barmes in his lineup all season, yet he'd be in the playoffs if our regular season ended today. Black magic, that's my only explanation.

Check out the new Record Book link at the bottom of this Commissioner's Message box.

Our trade deadline is officially Sunday, July 31. But since trades must be announced by Thursday at noon, the actual deadline is Thursday, July 28 at Noon Central Time.

Coughlin won Week 14 with 88.5 points, the Best Week so far. All three Weekly Reports (below) have been updated.

Enjoy the time off to contemplate your team's future and watch the All-Star game. See you on the Live Scoring page Thursday!

07/04/05 5:00 PM

Tepper won Week 13 with 73.5 points. All three Weekly Reports (below) have been updated.

Perennial playoff contenders Jon Tepp and Team 51146 are charging. Cychosz has climbed to .400!

Only 8 weeks to go in our regular season, and only 4 weeks to go until the trade deadline.

Happy Fourth of July!

06/27/05 1:35 PM

Team Zip Code won Week 12 with 66.5 points -- the lowest point total to win this season. All three Weekly Reports (below) have been updated.

The Transactions Log is updated. Players will be placed on rosters later tonight.

Three months in and only one month to go in the trading season, and not a single trade yet.

06/13/05 1:42 PM

I won Week 10 with 78.5 points. Tepper was fourth. All three Weekly Reports (below) have been updated.

The league is upside down -- Seeger (9th in Traditional Scoring) and I are leading our divisions. But I'm with Tepper -- the parity the GOBN has demonstrated in past years means right now, only half-way through our regular season, everyone's still in the playoff hunt. Well... except maybe Brad.

The Transactions Log is updated. Players will be placed on rosters later tonight.

05/31/05 8:50 AM

One more note:

  • Seeger is 8th in Traditional Scoring and tied for 6th in Breakdown, yet he has the best record in the league and a winning percentage of .600.

    05/30/05 8:30 PM

Jack won Week 8 with the highest point total this year -- 86.5 points -- thanks to his stupendous managerial skills or the Augie Curse placed on Colin? You make the call.

All three Weekly Reports (below) have been updated.

    Notes

  • Game of the Week: Augie vs. Seeger.

  • Tepp batted .3295 this week which isn't even the best this year. Colin batted .3354 in Week 3.

  • Drew leads Traditional Scoring but is only 5th in Breakdown and has the third worst record.

  • DT is 2nd in Traditional Scoring but is only 8th in Breakdown and has the 5th best record.

    05/23/05 4:00 PM

The Transactions Log has been updated with this week's results. Roster changes will be made sometime after 6:30 PM tonight.

Coughlin won Week 7 with 67 points. All three Weekly Reports (below) have been updated.

    Notes

  • Cychosz did not submit any transaction requests this week. I can't remember the last time that happened.

    Winning Percentage Chart

  • Look at Colin's "rise to power." He has the second best record in the league and has won 4 weeks in a row, twice 7-3 and twice 8-2. (Jack, you are welcome.)

  • Look at DT's decline. Overall, he's won 4 of the 7 weeks, and won many of those convincingly. However, the 3 he's lost, he's lost convincingly: 2-8, 3-7, and 3-6-1 (this week).

    05/16/05 4:30 PM

Cychosz (!) won Week 6 with 70 points. All three Weekly Reports (below) have been updated.

    Notes

  • Praying to the Jolly Roger gods at the Whaling Wall actually worked!

  • The Augie Curse continues to be effective. See Seeger's 2-8 loss to Walsh.

  • I had the second worst week. Luckily for me, Tepp has the worst.

  • I don't anticipate anyone doing worse than .300 or better than .700 the rest of the way, so I've adjusted the Winning Percentage Chart. Sorry, Brad. It's easier to see the differences between teams if the scale is narrower. But don't worry, we won't forget your woeful start or "Drew's inevitable fall from grace."

    05/11/05 2:05 PM

Dan Seeger won Week 5 with 71 points. All three Weekly Reports (below) have been updated.

Dan has lost only once (4-6 to Jack in Week 4) and plays his arch nemesis, Colin Walsh, this week. (Curse applied.)

    05/10/05 9:46 PM

I was out of town last week and asked Jack to rotate my pitchers in for me. He forgot. We discussed it tonight and agreed that I should retroactively change my lineup to include the 3 starts I missed -- Bonderman, Lopez, and Weaver over the weekend.

Originally, I lost to Jack 0-8-2. I'll probably lose 2-7-1 with the changes.

If anyone has a problem with this, let me know.
